The Roman Republic (Latin: Res publica Romana), officially known as the Senate and the People of Rome (Latin: Senatus Populusque Romanus) is a nation in southern Europe. As of August 10, 2023, it has 22 citizens.

Rome is currently in direct territorial conflict with the Iberian Empire over the Balearic Islands.

Rome is currently allied with the Mali Empire and is apart of the Catholic Church.

The leaders of Rome are known as the Triumvirate of Rome, in which are Consul vyketype/proto, Quaestor gb, and Praetor XanaxDoctor1. However, the Senate of Rome is also a very powerful organ in the nation.

Territory

As of now, the Roman Republic has laid claim to Italy, Switzerland, Corsica, Austria, the Balearic Islands, Malta, most of Southern France, Greece, Eastern Anatolia, Crete, Cyprus, Bulgaria and a large portion of the Balkans.

History

Formation

The Roman Republic was formed on December 27, 2022 by vyketype/proto, Zenetty and gb, who were all previously members of La République française. They quickly gathered members from the old Turul Empire, including XanaxDoctor1, who would eventually become one of the three Triumvirs.

Treaty of Malta

The Roman Republic and the Empire of Carthage were strong rivals, as they each occupied one coast of the Mediterranean sea. After longtime disputes over Malta, Sicily, Sardinia, Cyprus, Corsica, Eastern Spain and the Balearic Islands, they finally signed the Treaty of Malta on December 29, 2022 with the following articles:

1. Corsica is no longer claimed by the Empire of Carthage.
2. Iberia is no longer claimed by the Roman Republic.
3. Sicily, Sardinia, Malta and the Balearic Islands have been ceded to the Roman Republic.
4. Neither the Roman Republic nor the Empire of Carthage may claim Cyprus until Pixlies starts. (This article was overridden sometime later)
5. The Roman Republic and the Empire of Carthage maintain friendly relations with each other.

The fifth article would be taken with a grain of salt, as even though both nations would maintain friendly relations with each other, they would still be rivals.

Disputes with France

Rome previously had direct territorial conflicts with France, a dispute which concerned Corsica, which remained unsolved until that nation moved to Ruthenia. On January 8, 2023, the Senate of Rome adopted the following motion:

Whereas the Government of the Third French Republic has dismissed diplomatic friendship with the People and Government of the Roman Republic and has sent traitorous spies into the Roman Republic, therefore be it resolved that the the Island of Corsica is the rightful land of the Roman Republic and that it shall be illegal and punishable by a fine and upon several offenses by removal from the nation to trade with any citizen or company of the Third French Republic or cooperate with the Third French Republic.

Before July 9, 2023, the Quaestor position used to be called "Treasurer" and was occupied by Kotori. Due to him being permanently banned from Pixlies, gb took over that position on the same date. Additionally, before August 8, 2023, the Consul position was called "President" and the Praetor position was called "Head of the Armed Forces."

Since August 7, 2023, the Senate of Rome has been dissolved as the only Senators are the three Triumvirs. The Third National Diet failed to elect two Senators (only Zenetty was elected) and on August 7, 2023, Zenetty left the nation.

Political Parties

The three Triumvirs have agreed, as an "unwritten rule," that there shall be no political parties in the Roman Republic. According to them, political parties only divide up the population and create alternative goals by drawing attention away from national goals.

Economy

On January 15, 2023, the Senate of Rome voted to not implement any sales tax, with Senator gb citing, "Taxes are for the weak. If our nation has a high enough approval rating, government-funded projects should not be a problem, as members will readily donate. Resorting to taxes is a reflection of the state and the popularity of a nation itself."
