The United Pacific States of America, commonly referred to as the Pacific States or Pacifica, is a planned nation in the upcoming season of Pixlies. It unofficially claims California, Nevada, Oregon, Washington, British Columbia, the Yukon, Alaska, and Hawaii.

Politics

Government

Executive

Executive power is vested in the President, chosen by an electoral college once every three weeks. The President runs with and/or appoints a Vice President to serve the term with them.[1]

The current acting President of the Pacific States is Skulli of the Whig Party, while the acting Vice President is angryfishstick1 of the Socialist Party.

Legislative

The Pacific States has a unicameral legislature, officially titled the "Congress." The Congress consists of each Governor of every state, elected once every three weeks along with the President. Governors/representatives are elected by state with instant-runoff voting. Most bills are passed by representatives with an absolute majority vote before they are sent to the President.[1]

Subdivisions

The first-level administrative divisions of the Pacific States are known as "states." State boundaries have not been drawn yet.

Foreign Relations

Iberian Empire

The Pacific States has positive relations with the Iberian Empire. The pre-season Viceroyalty of California was a colony of the Empire until the California Republic, and later the Pacific States, replaced it.

Ukraine

The Pacific States has positive relations with Ukraine.

Geography

The Pacific States encompasses the present-day states, provinces, and territories of California, Nevada, Oregon, Washington, Alaska, Hawaii, British Columbia, and the Yukon.

History

Formation

The precursor to the Pacific States, the California Republic, was founded by Maurice in EarthScape, a geopolitical towny server which lasted only for a short time before it was shut down by staff.

California Republic, EarthScape

Before the start of the EarthScape season, Maurice, the acting president, left the nation after it was clear Mauriocracy would not succeed under his political party, the Democratic Socialists of California. Leadership of California was handed over to angryfishstick1 of the Libertarian-Socialist Party (later the Socialist Party), which worked with Skulli and the rest of the Whig Party to ratify a constitution and form a bipartisan government under the United Californian Alliance. A presidential election and two gubernatorial elections were held before and during the EarthScape season.

California Republic, pre-Season Pixlies

The decision to move California Republic to Pixlies was made shortly after EarthScape shut down. The mass movement of Californians from EarthScape to Pixlies resulted in the Viceroyalty of California peacefully ceasing to exist, with angryfishstick1, the former Viceroy, becoming Vice President. Presidential elections were scheduled on 19 November 2023, but were not held due to inactivity.

Pacific States, pre-season Pixlies

On 21 November 2023, sleep organized a group of seven people, including Skulli and angryfishstick1, to form a new nation on the western North American coast. Within the next couple of days, a constitution for the United Pacific States was drafted. The constitution has not been ratified, but likely will be soon.
